Without the need for a ProtoPixel Brain Experience, it is possible to control up to 10 ProtoPixel Gates SPI Wired simultaneously. This allows for the orchestration of a maximum of 24,000 RGB pixels or a total of 72,000 pixels, with the goal of distributing the same content across the light surface.
To accomplish this, the Gates must be connected to the same IP Network, either via Ethernet or WiFi, and operate in standalone mode, without a Brain Experience orchestrating them.
This feature is available starting with the firmware version 1.5.8.
☝️ We recommend using Ethernet instead WiFi as it has better results ☝️
How to connect more than 1 Gate SPI Wired
Once you have the Gates SPI Wired on the same IP network, you need to access the Advanced Settings on the WebApp for each device and define the following:
- Determine whether each device will act as a "Leader" or "Follower".
- Specify the orchestration channel they will use to communicate with each other.
☝️Keep in mind that if you have more than one leader running on the same Orchestration Channel, you can expect odd behaviours as they will compete to orchestrate the followers. Please only define one leader per channel. ☝️
Controlling a group of Gates SPI Wired
Basic control
Play & Stop: Pressing Play or Stop on the Leader will play or stop the reproduction in all the followers. On the other hand, pressing Play or Stop on a follower will only play or stop the content running on that specific follower until new instructions are received from the Leader.
Brightness: Changing the brightness on the Leader will result in all the followers following the same instruction. However, if you change the brightness on a follower, only that follower's brightness will be affected.
How to define the content that the Gates SPI Wired will run
There are two options for defining what the followers should do:
- Use the same as the Leader: This means that the followers will play the same content as the Leader. The content needs to be stored in every Gate SPI Wired, using the same file name on each one.
- Keep current content: This means that when you press "Play" on the Leader, the content to be played on that specific Gate SPI Wired will be the ones stored in the SD card. With this option, you will be coordinating the control of the group of Gates, each with different content.
☝️ If a stream is started to a Gates SPI Wired when it is orchestrated, the stream will interrupt that orchestration while it lasts. In the next play performed by the leader, that Gates will regain its follower behaviour. ☝️
Mode A: All the Gates follow the leader
The same content is sent to all the orchestrated Gates SPI Wired, where the leader dictates actions and one singular content type.
Mode B: Orchestrating different contents
Each Gate SPI Wired streams content from their own SD, independent, but are orchestrated by the leader, which universally controls Play & Stop and Brightness.
☝️ Keep in mind that the Gates SPI Wired only supports the storage of up to 50 recordings. ☝️
